Damen Yachting has collaborated closely with the EYOS leadership team on the construction of their SeaXplorer series of expedition superyachts. Join Forbes columnist Bill Springer for a first-hand look into the ways that the experience behind EYOS helped to shape some of the most exciting and capable yachts on the water anywhere in the world.
Full disclosure: I’ve been a full-throated fan of Damen Yachting’s SeaXplorer line of expedition yachts since the very first time I talked with EYOS co-founder Rob McCallum about the concept way back in 2015. I’m also one of the lucky ones who have been on several high-latitude trips with EYOS—first to Antarctica and later to Iceland. And better still, since I recently completed a multi-part series of videos that explain everything that makes SeaXplorer yachts so special, I’ve got a unique perspective on the growing SeaXplorer fleet.
‘Working with the Damen team on SeaXplorer has been one of the most exciting and rewarding projects we’ve worked on at EYOS. To be able to distill so much collective experience into the design has been a dream come true. It is so gratifying to see the yachts now underway, exploring, doing exactly what they are designed for.’
– Rob McCallum, EYOS Co-Founder
Damen Yachting has not only built the SeaXplorer yachts series with some of the best naval architects and interior design firms in the world, but they also enlisted the expert consulting of the expedition leadership at EYOS, utilizing their combined decades of experience in the world’s most remote and challenging regions. The result is a best-in-class portfolio of expedition yachts that is capable of going anywhere in the world while providing owners with the ultimate superyacht comforts.
In addition to being fitted out with ultra-comfortable interiors, each new SeaXplorer is also built to rigid, ice-class standards and provides plenty of deck space for storing and deploying everything from personal submarines and amphibious landing craft to full-on helicopter ops. Each also has an innovative observation area in the bow that provides wildlife viewing from a new vantage point. And each also has a well-designed viewing area at the highest point of the yacht above the bridge that provides amazing views—and usually, a hot tub too.
Some SeaXplorer models have been optimized for skiing. Others have been designed to be great warn water explorers. Meanwhile, the SeaXplorer 58 pictured here was launched recently. While specific details remain under wraps for now, I can say the aft deck areas have been optimized for heli-ops and include lots of space for beach club-ops too!
But as it is with most things in life, you can’t really comprehend just how special something is until you have seen it for yourself. And I can say from experience that there is nothing quite like a SeaXplorer.
