Expedition Experience
As Expedition Leader, Kelvin has led numerous complex trips involving mountaineering, kayaking, camping, hiking, filmmaking, helicopters, scuba diving, ROVs and submersibles. Kelvin was Expedition Leader for the deepest manned submersible dives in the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, the Atacama Trench, and both the Philippine and Kermadec Trenches at over 10,000 metres deep, plus exploration of the world’s two deepest known shipwrecks, the fabled USS Johnston, which rests at 6,460 metres, and a year later discovery of USS Samuel B. Roberts at 6,895 metres.
Kelvin has contributed to multiple industry committees dedicated to increasing safety and environmental responsibility in the polar regions. Active in Arctic Search and Rescue preparedness, he cooperates closely with the Canadian Coast Guard in training exercises designed to enhance operational awareness and safety. Kelvin also sat on the Executive Committee of AECO – the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators – and instigated a community engagement programme to increase cooperation and understanding between northern peoples and expedition cruise operators.
