GREENLAND
EXPEDITION

Greenland has the best mix of culture, history and wildlife of any polar destination.

A BEAUTIFUL
CHALLENGE

The biggest ice sheet in the northern hemisphere sits atop Greenland, draining 350 billion tons of ice into the sea.

A world of breathtaking beauty carved by Ice Age glaciers and characterized by its challenging environment, Greenland lies mostly north of the Arctic Circle. It’s a land of sled dogs, kayaks, majestic glaciers, icebergs, immense landscapes, colourful settlements and warm, friendly people.

Greenland is a land of superlatives, ideally explored via private expedition yacht charter. The earth’s biggest island is also the least densely populated country, and contains the world’s most northernly national park and the longest fjord in the world. And in spring from April to May, from powder to corn, these protected fjords offer unparalleled access to prime heli-ski terrain.

No lift, no lines. Ski from summit to sea on wide, treeless snowfields and down steep couloirs flanking glacier-sculpted peaks. Carve tracks where few have or will — from heights overlooking iceberg-choked bays and granite landscapes some 3.8 billion years old.

  • Close to 90% of Greenlanders are ethnically Inuit, which is the highest proportion by far in any of the Arctic counties.

    EXTRAORDINARY
    EXPERIENCES

Discover the epicenter of Greenland’s art scene.

Greenland was settled by the Saqqaq culture as early as 2500BC. This expansion was the first in a long set of cultural waves to wash upon the shores Greenland. The Dorset, Norse, the Thule and even the Danish were all to leave their mark on the cultural history of Greenland. Today the Greenlanders enjoy a burgeoning contemporary cultural scene exploring the northern limits of cuisine, dance, music, crafts and visual arts, much of which is firmly rooted in indigenous tradition. The epicenter for the art scene in Greenland is the capitol, Nuuk, but hidden within the polychromatic villages that dot the western coast are studios and galleries that serve as outposts of artistic creation.

    EXTRAORDINARY
    EXPERIENCES

Explore the remote beauty of the Eastern Coast.

For those willing to leave behind the trappings of civilization altogether, The remote eastern coast of Greenland is one of the least populated places on the planet. Reversing the path of the Icelanders back east through the impossibly narrow Prins Christian Sund and turning north along the coast of the Denmark Strait takes one to land that has rarely felt the foot of humankind. Here a constant stream of ice from off the ice cap drains south from outlet glaciers, narwhals look for leads into their feeding grounds, and bears hunt seals on ice well into the summer. Inhibitions fade with the waning influence of man, so interactions with wildlife tend to be ones of mutual intrigue.

    EXTRAORDINARY
    EXPERIENCES

    Teleport into an arctic landscape.

Within minutes of leaving any Greenlandic town, one is immediately thrust into the Arctic wilderness. There are no transition zones or fuzzy margins. Whales feed in number just off the beach, Musk ox and reindeer graze on willows and lichens under constant watch from sled dogs waiting for the return of winter from atop their plywood houses.

GETTING
AROUND

Octopus Expedition Yacht | On Board Helicopter

Exploring Greenland by expedition superyacht provides the utmost flexibility and allows those aboard to reach remote locations for exceptional experiences, comfortably.

There are only two airstrips capable of landing a jet in Greenland, and neither are in populated areas. In spite of its remoteness, Greenland has a relatively developed internal network of small landing strips and helipads, but the vast majority of unglaciated Greenland is only accessible by sea. Whether or not a yacht is capable of accommodating a helicopter on board, these versatile aircraft can be chartered to extend the reach of a vessel far into the interior, or very high above the surface of the sea to fully explore Greenland’s grandeur.
